Mirwaiz demands immediate End to ongoing Eviction drive in IIOJK

1. In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, strong voices from across the political spectrum were raised against the ongoing eviction-cum-demolition campaign launched by the Modi regime as part of its sinister agenda to dislodge people from their own lands and settle outsiders there.

2. Senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is under house arrest in Srinagar, in a statement asked New Delhi to immediately halt the campaign. He added that one after another persecutory measure is being taken to make the Kashmiri people strangers in their own motherland. The Mirwaiz made it clear to India that no country can make progress and gain prosperity in presence of conflicts on border and in neighbourhood, and asked for resolving the Kashmir dispute in the interest of peace and prosperity in the South Asian region.

3. Senior APHC leader, Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, in a statement in Srinagar said India is following the Israeli footsteps in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He appealed to the people to foil the nefarious designs of Indian oppressors, exploiters and land grabbers with unity.

4. Peoples Democratic Party President, Mehbooba Mufti, addressing a news conference in New Delhi pleaded for resolution of the Kashmir dispute. She said the use of bulldozers has made Jammu and Kashmir worse than Afghanistan. National Conference leader, Omar Abdullah, talking to media persons in Srinagar said there is chaos everywhere in Jammu and Kashmir and he deplored that bulldozers are being sent everywhere to demolish houses, complexes and buildings.

5. Peoples Democratic Party staged a protest march in Srinagar, today, against land eviction and demolition drives in IIOJK. The protesters including PDP leaders and activists marched from party office near Municipal Park towards traffic headquarters in the city and raised slogans against the Modi-led Indian government and the IIOJK administration. They were carrying placards in their hands reading slogans like ‘Kashmir for Kashmiris’, ‘Stop ruling Jammu and Kashmir like a colony’, and ‘Stop bulldozing our homes.’

6. Separately, scores of Kashmiris and Indian activists staged a protest demonstration at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar demanding an immediate halt to the ongoing demolition drive IIOJK. The activists said that the drive was politically motivated and had created a scare among people across the territory.

7. Another detained civilian has died in police custody. The deceased identified as Sonu Kumar was tortured to death at Nagri police station in Kathua district. Earlier, several Kashmiri youth have met the same fate in police custody in the territory.

8. In another incident, a teenage boy was injured in a landmine blast planted by Indian army in Qasba village of Poonch district.
