Srinagar, January 25 (KMS): Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and the world over will observe India’s Republic Day, tomorrow, as Black Day to impress upon the world to take notice of New Delhi’s continued denial of right to self-determination to the Kashmiri people.
According to Kashmir Media Service, call for the observance of the Black Day has been given by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference. The day will be marked by a complete strike in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and anti-India demonstrations and rallies in Azad Kashmir, Pakistan and world capitals to give a strong message to the international community that the Kashmiris consider India as a usurper of their fundamental rights and it has no right to celebrate the day in the territory.
APHC leaders and organizations including Ghulam Nabi War, Khadim Hussain, Sibte Shabbir Qummi and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front through statements, massages and posters asked the Kashmiris to boycott all Indian official celebrations and hoist black flags on the rooftops of their houses, shops and other buildings. They paid glowing tributes to the victims of Handwara massacre on their 33rd martyrdom anniversary, today. At least, 21 Kashmiris were killed and dozens others were injured after Indian troops opened fire on peaceful protesters in north Kashmir’s Handwara town on this day in 1990. Speakers at a seminar organized by APHC-AJK chapter in Islamabad also paid homage to the massacre victims.
Meanwhile, every year on January 26, India’s Republic Day brings more miseries to the oppressed Kashmiris with Indian troops intensifying checking and frisking across the territory. This year too, all roads leading towards a cricket stadium in Srinagar where the main function of 26th January is scheduled to be held have been sealed with barbed wire to restrict people’s movement. Police are carrying out surprise checking of the vehicles on the entry and exit points in Srinagar and other cities and towns of the occupied territory.
On the other hand, Indian police arrested four youth during crackdown operations and house raids in Surankote area of Poonch district. The youth were arrested in a fake case registered in connection with the recent blast in Narwal area of Jammu district.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressing a press conference in Jammu made a mention of the BBC documentary on the Narendra Modi’s role in 2002 anti-Muslim pogrom in Gujarat and said that Modi can ban, he can suppress the press, he can control the institutions, he can use agencies like CBI and Enforcement Directorate but the truth has a habit of coming out. The second part of the two-part documentary, “India: The Modi Question” was released in the United Kingdom on Tuesday.
