Islamabad, January 04 (KMS): Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and the world over are observing the Right to Self-Determination Day, tomorrow, to impress upon the international community to fulfill its commitment to the Kashmiri people.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the day will be observed on the call of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference. Protest demonstrations, rallies and seminars will be held in both parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan and the world over to sensitize the global community vis-à-vis Kashmir dispute.

It was on 5th January in 1949 when UN Security Council passed a historic resolution stating that the question of accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India or Pakistan will be decided through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite.

All Parties Hurriyat Conference leaders including Nayeem Ahmed Khan and Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar in their statements in Srinagar said, January 05, 1949 resolution is a clear proof that Kashmir is not India’s internal matter but an internationally-recognized disputed territory. The leaders urged the UN to fulfill its obligations regarding settlement of the Kashmir dispute in its historical perspective.

Senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement called for a negotiated settlement of the Kashmir dispute to break the vortex of innocent killing in the territory.

Meanwhile, Indian troops continued massive cordon and search operations in Rajouri, Kishtwar and Reasi districts of Jammu region. The troops assisted by paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force, police and so-called Village Defence Committee personnel are conducting surprise checking in the areas. The Indian authorities have imposed night curfew in a strip along the Working Boundary in Samba district.

The denial of bail to an Indian army Captain Bhupinder by an Armed Forces Tribunal involved in the fake encounter killing of three labourers from Rajouri district has confirmed the fact that Indian troops are extra-judicially massacring innocent Kashmiri youth. The labourers were martyred by a team of Indian Army led by Captain Bhupinder in Amshipora area of Shopian on July 18, 2020.
