Modi wants to Tighten Grip on Kashmiris: Mehbooba

1. A declaration issued at the end of three-day “International Kashmir Congress” in Ankara, Turkey, has rejected Indian aggression, illegal occupation, coercion and continued denial of the sacred right to self-determination to the Kashmiri people in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

2. The event was organized by the Legal Forum for Kashmir in collaboration with Centre for Economic and Social Research. The declaration maintained that India has flagrantly violated international law, norms, conventions and treaties to colonize and annex Jammu and Kashmir. It added that the Indian state is aggressively pursuing a fascist agenda in occupied Kashmir and is perpetrating war crimes with total impunity and zero accountability. The declaration urged the international community finally to act in accordance with the principle of ‘Injustice anywhere is threat to justice everywhere’ and said that the failure of international community and its institutions in occupied Kashmir are discrediting the UN, drawing into question its very existence and validity. The “Ankara Declaration” was unanimously signed and adopted by all participants of the “International Kashmir Congress”.

3. In Srinagar, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference in a statement said that killings, arrests, torture and molestations have become a routine at the hands of Indian occupation troops in the territory. The APHC said that the worsening human rights situation in IIOJK warrants urgent intervention by the international community to protect Kashmiris from the ongoing Modi’s onslaught.

4. A Delhi Court dismissed the bail application filed for senior APHC leader Nayeem Ahmad Khan in a fake case registered against him in 2017. Khan, who has been in judicial custody since August 14, 2017, was arrested by Indian dreaded National Investigation Agency from his residence in Srinagar on July 24, 2017.

5. People’s Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti in a tweet, today, joined other political parties and groups to raise concern against the Modi regime’s plan to collect database of all families in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. She said the plan to create unique IDs for all families is another “surveillance tactic to tighten the iron grip” on the lives of Kashmir residents. Mehbooba Mufti deplored that New Delhi views Kashmiris with deep suspicion and the proposed plan is widening trust deficit, especially after 2019, the year Modi regime scrapped Article 370 that guaranteed special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
