Kashmiri Women’s Resistance day Observed in IIOJK,AJK and World over

1. Incarcerated All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Masarrat Aalam Butt, has said, Indian military is using rape as a weapon of war to humiliate the Kashmiri people and break their resolve for freedom of Jammu and Kashmir from India’s illegal occupation.

2. Masarrat Aalam Butt in a message from New Delhi’s infamous Tihar jail on the completion of 32 years of Kunanposhpora mass rape tragedy said that Indian troops were involved in heinous war crimes under the protection of draconian law, Armed Forces Special Powers. The APHC Chairman urged the international human rights organisations to take practical steps to provide justice to the victims of the mass rape tragedy.

3. Indian troops had gang-raped around 100 women of all ages from eight to eighty years old on the night of February 23 in 1991 during a siege and search operation in Kunanposhpora in Kupwara district. Since 2014, February 23 is every year observed as the Kashmiri Women’s Resistance Day, call for which was, first, given by Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society and supported by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

4. A report released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service in connection with the Day, today, said the miseries and victimization of Kashmiri women by the Indian troops and police personnel continue unabated in IIOJK. The report maintained that at least 682 women have been martyred by Indian troops since January 2001 till date. It pointed out that since January 1989, the unabated Indian state terrorism rendered 22,957 women widowed while Indian forces’ personnel molested 11,256 women in the occupied territory.

5. The Jammu High Court Bar Association suspended work, today, in all courts including the High Court to protest against the imposition of the property tax in the territory by the Modi-led fascist Indian regime.

6. Peoples Democratic Party President, Mehbooba Mufti, and National Conference have strongly denounced the imposition of the property tax saying the move is part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s larger agenda to impoverish the people of the territory.

7. APHC-AJK held a protest demonstration in Islamabad, while International Forum for Justice and Human Rights took out a rally in Muzaffarabad to express solidarity with victims of Kunanposhpora tragedy. The speakers on the occasion urged international human rights organizations to raise an effective voice against Indian troops’ violence in IIOJK.
