Srinagar, May 03 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism martyred two Kashmiri youth in Kupwara district.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the troops martyred the youth during a cordon and search operation in Machil area of the district.
Peoples Democratic Party at a meeting chaired by its President, Mehbooba Mufti, in Srinagar said that the residents of the occupied territory are faced with an existential threat as the Bharatiya Janata Party government in India is plundering their resources like the East India Company once did with the residents of the Subcontinent. A resolution passed on the occasion condemned the construction of special settlements for outsiders and eviction of the local population from their homes and lands. The resolution also called for the release of all Kashmiri political prisoners and demanded of the international community to hold Indian forces accountable for their brutal actions in the territory.
Meanwhile, posters with pictures of Pakistan’s Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir have appeared in the occupied territory, praising him for showing solidarity with the Kashmiris and championing their cause of right to self-determination. The posters pasted at many places in Srinagar greeted General Asim Munir with words like– “Thank you Pakistan Army Chief” for his reiteration of the commitment to the Kashmir cause.
On the other hand, the Paris-based Reporters Without Borders in its 2023 World Press Freedom Index, released on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, today, said, the situation is very worrisome in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, where reporters are often harassed by police and paramilitaries, with some being subjected to so-called provisional detention for several years. In the list, India under Narendra Modi’s rule dropped from being in a “problematic situation” into the lowest category after it sank 11 places to rank at 161 out of 180 countries. India thus finds itself among the 31 countries where Reporters Without Borders believes the situation for journalists is “very serious”. KMS
