Indian Troops launch Search Operations in Poonch
• Jan 5 to be observed as Self-Determination Day
• Modi regime eroding IIOJK’s Muslim character
Srinagar, December 31, (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has announced that Kashmiris will observe January 5 as Right to Self-Determination Day to remind the international community, particularly the United Nations, of its obligations to resolve the Kashmir dispute as per Kashmiris’s aspirations.
According to Kashmir Media Service, senior APHC leader Ghulam Ahmed Gulzar while making the announcement in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the Kashmiris across the Line of Control and the world over would hold protest demonstrations, rallies and seminars to mark the day. He said that the unresolved Kashmir dispute was a big question mark on the credibility of the United Nations and advised the Word Body to implement its resolutions on Kashmir without further delay to restore its lost credibility.
It was on 5th January in 1949 when the UN Security Council passed a historic resolution stating that “The question of accession of the State of Jammu & Kashmir to India or Pakistan will be decided through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite”.
Another senior APHC leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who continues to remain under house arrest in a statement in Srinagar said that the Modi regime was hell-bent on eroding every symbol of Muslim identity in the occupied territory. He said that keeping him forcibly away from the pulpit of central Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, one the most representative symbols of the Muslim tradition of Kashmir, is part of the regime’s Hindutva policy in the territory.
The fascist Indian regime has demolished the house of a prominent freedom leader Amir Khan in Pahalgam area of Islamabad district. Earlier, the house of another prominent liberation leader, Ashiq Ahmad Nagroo was also demolished in Rajpora area of Pulwama district.
Meanwhile, Indian troops launched a massive search operation in villages close to the Line of Control in Poonch district. The troops particularly cordoned off the Khari Karmara area of the district and conducted house-to-house searches.
On the other hand, the Legal Forum for Kashmir in its report painted the bleak picture of deteriorating human rights situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The report pointed out that like previous years, the year 2022 also witnessed bloodshed and silencing of Kashmir’s civil society including human rights defenders and journalists through arrests, harassment and threats at the hands of trigger-happy Indian troops.
