New Delhi, May 29 (KMS): The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, on the application of the notorious National Investigation Agency demanding that his life sentence be converted into a death penalty.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the court has sought the appearance of Muhammad Yasin Malik on August 9, 2023. The JKLF chairman is already facing a life sentence and is currently lodged in New Delhi\u2019s infamous Tihar jail.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, pro-freedom leaders and organizations in their statements issued in Srinagar cautioned that the Hindutva-inspired Bharatiya Janata Party regime is conspiring to hang Muhammad Yasin Malik to regain the losing popularity in 2024 Indian elections. The leaders and organizations including Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party and APHC leaders Khadim Hussain and Syed Sibte Shabbir Qummi said the National Investigation Agency filed the plea in the Delhi High Court for conversion of life sentence into death penalty for Yasin Malik at the behest of the Modi-led Indian regime. They advised the BJP to take a leaf out of Kashmir’s history and understand the fact that the legitimate political voices cannot be suppressed by caging leaders or sending them to the gallows in fake cases. They said that the martyrdom of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru further cemented the Kashmiris’ resolve for freedom. Hurriyat leaders and organizations appealed to the international human rights bodies to stop India from using its kangaroo courts to punish Kashmiri leaders for championing the Kashmiris’ just cause peacefully.<\/p>\n
A report released by Kashmir Media Service on the 14th anniversary of Shopian rape and double murder incident, today, said, justice continues to elude victim families despite the passage of more than one decade. The victims, Aasiya and Nelofar, were abducted, raped and subsequently killed by the men in uniform in Shopian and their bodies were found on 30th May, 2009. The incident is a chilling example of Indian troops\u2019 brutalities in Kashmir and is witness to institutionalized and structured violence that India is using in the territory.<\/p>\n
