37 Deaths in 2500 Fire Incidents in IIOJK
• G20 event in IIOJK will harm image of member countries
• Ladakh’s leadership says they were happy with IIOJK
Srinagar, January 09 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has expressed strong resentment over the media reports about likelihood of G20 conference in Srinagar, the summer capital of the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir, saying that the event, if held, would badly dent the democratic credentials of the member countries, particularly the European Union.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC leadership in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Jammu and Kashmir is a UN-recongized disputed territory whose political future is to be decided through plebiscite. G20 is an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union. The APHC said this in response to a statement of a senior Indian official, Pandurang Kundbarao, in which he said Srinagar city is likely to host one of the G20 events in May this year.
People from Srinagar and adjoining areas staged a protest at Press Enclave, seeking evacuation of their land grabbed by Indian Air Force and airport authorities. Residents from Naaru, Ichgam and Gudsuth areas said that Indian Air Force as well as airport authorities have grabbed their 168 kanals of land in exchange for a meager amount of Rs 155 per kanal.
Meanwhile, the joint leadership of Ladakh region, has made it clear to India that they were better off with occupied Jammu and Kashmir prior to revocation of its special status on August 5, 2019. Leh Apex Body leader and senior vice president of Ladakh Buddhist Association, Chering Dorjay in an interview with an Indian TV channel, said that they felt better while being part of Jammu and Kashmir before it was divided into two so-called union territories. Mr Dorjay asked New Delhi to stop making Ladakhi people fool in the name of committees. Kargil Democratic Alliance representative Sajad Hussian strongly supported the viewpoint of Mr Dorjay and vowed to continue protests for their democratic rights.
In over 2500 incidents of fire, mostly remained shrouded in mystery, took 37 lives and damaged 1700 structures in the Kashmir valley during the year 2022. It is worth mentioning here that Indian troops and agency personnel were found in some such incidents in the past.
Noted Kashmiri poet Rehman Rahi passed away at his residence in Srinagar, today. Prof Rahi authored dozens of books and mentored hundreds of students.
